Dusting off the blog

I started this blog a couple of years ago so that family could keep up with what was going on in our lives. I didn't do a very good job with it and only ever had two posts. I'm going to try to dust it off and keep it updated.

Maura is now 5 1/2. She's in her second year of preschool and she'll start Kindergarten in August. She's as smart as a whip and has the attitude to go with it. She is smart and sassy at the same time. She's an awesome big sister to Ryan. She is so sensitive to his needs. She is such a beautiful girl too. She looks like I highlight her hair. It's light brown with blonde streaks in it.

Ryan is almost 3. Where oh where does the time go. We're now 3 months out from his Autism Spectrum Diagnosis. We're almost completely set up with all of his services. He had Speech Therapy on Monday afternoons for an hour, Occupational Therapy on Wednesday afternoons for an hour and Special Instruction for an hour on Friday afternoons. Right now we had a Behavioral Support Consultant here a few hours a week working out a treatment plan for him. Starting in the middle of February we will have a Therapeutic Support Specialist (TSS) here 10 hours a week to work with him on his behaviors at home and in the community.

Obviously things are going to be crazy busy here. Ryan is also going to need some dental work done and they will be sedating him for that. He has two cavities and a broken tooth that all need worked on. We're not sure when this will be but I'm hoping they will get it scheduled soon.

I'll try to keep up with this blog a little better even if it's just to post the funny things that my kids say.

Update on us

Well Ryan will be 10 months on Saturday. Where does the time go? He is going to start walking anytime now. He took several steps on Friday night but has been kind of lazy since then. He is doing lots of standing without holding onto anything but not walking. I thought he would walk earlier than Maura did but I don't think it's going to happen that way.

Maura is still fighting the potty training thing and it is maddening. I'll think we are close and then she just refuses. I have tried bribery, threats, sticker charts etc. I'm not sure what else to do. She has the most active imagination and says absolutely hysterical things. A couple of weeks ago she was trying to get up on the dishwasher. I told her to get down and she says "Mommy I have to get up here" I asked her why and she responds with "because I am a mermaid" I had to keep going with it and I asked her what being a mermaid had to do with getting up on the dishwasher? Her answer was "mermaids sit on rocks mommy and the dishwasher is my rock" complete with a cute little pose. I had to laugh at that. She is pretty creative.

Well I will try to do a better job keeping you all updated.

First Post

Ok so I have been thinking about starting a family blog for awhile now so here goes. Today is the 5th day of the new year. I am trying to get work done so this is my way of procrastinating. I figured this would be a great way to keep friends and family updated on our lives and to share some of the funny things that happen at our house. I have a separate blog for my business stuff but I wanted one for just family things. Welcome and enjoy the ride.
